Remembering Khalid Abdi
Today should have been a festive and happy day for our Muslim neighbors celebrating Eid al-Adha. But Eid prayers became a site of horror and tragedy in Shakopee as we lost a dear friend and community member, Khalid Abdi, to gun violence.
The DFL and its SD63 members are heartbroken over this loss. Khalid was a tireless volunteer, eager to get other young people excited about improving their community. He had a great heart, greeting all with a warm smile and a bright welcome. He brought these gifts to his work in the DFL, as a labor union rep, and on so many campaigns. Though Khalid only had 26 years with us, his impact has been immense, and his legacy stands as an inspiration.
We offer our deepest condolences to Mohamed Ibrahim and his whole family in their loss. We stand with his family in community: may we all be given strength and patience as we mourn our loved one. We ask that everyone keep Khalid’s family, friends, fellow organizers, coworkers, and neighbors in your hearts and thoughts.
